Breast Reduction and Breast Lift Surgery Gold Coast

Breast reduction and lift procedure at Gold Coast is indicated if you feel uncomfortable with large or sagging breasts. There may be pain in the breasts, shoulders, lower neck or back or discomfort during physical activity. A breast operation minimises these problems, enhances the posture, and helps improve the overall appearance.

There are currently several techniques for reduction mammaplasty. They all aim to remove excess breast tissue and recontour the breast. Your surgeon will take your physical condition and requirements into consideration and will determine which technique would be best for you.

Initial Consultation

During your initial breast reduction and lift consultation, your surgeon in Gold Coast will answer any questions you may have regarding breast reduction surgery, as well as run through risks and complications that could occur. Your surgeon will also discuss the results you are hoping to achieve and how these can be reached. This discussion will also include incision options.

Surgical Plan

The operation normally takes between 2 to 3 hours and may be performed in a day stay hospital provided the patient has suitable aftercare. It is unusual for any post-operative pain although swelling, bruising is common and may persist for 7 to 10 days.

Drain tubes may be used for this procedure. Postoperatively, the patient will wear a support bandage or garment for 3 to 5 days. Stitches are dissolving.

The newer techniques offer minimal incisions with the end result showing less evidence of the operation.

• Liposuction – Removal of fatty breast tissue to reduce size offers scar-free surgery, however, this technique generally does not give a lift and although the patient may reduce 1 to 2 cup sizes, the shaping and firming offered by alternate techniques, do not apply.
• “Donut” Lift – The less obvious approach involves an incision around the edge of the areola to “drawstring” the breast giving a minimal lift. The areola may be reduced and even repositioned during this procedure.
• “Lollipop” Lift – A single incision, around the areola and in a line to the fold of the breast, will minimise any evidence of the incision on the breast.
• The “T” Incision – For large breasts needing a significant reduction and lift, including repositioning the areola, this is the one which gives the best result.
• Thread Lifting – The surgeon uses permanent sutures to create a “sling” – to internally support the breast.
