During the surgical procedure, excess fat is removed, the muscle is tightened, and loose skin is removed. The correction of muscle separation in the abdomen may also take place during an abdominoplasty. This is done with the intention of creating a tighter and more toned abdomen area post surgery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The incision is along the bikini line and is closed with dissolving sutures under the skin, ensuring the incision mark will be barely noticeable once healed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This surgery must be performed in a hospital, under a general anaesthetic and may require one or two nights stay. The operating time will vary according to the individual patient requirements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some patients may require drain tubes for the first few days of recovery. There may be some post operative discomfort in the area during week one after this cosmetic procedure, and pain relief medication may be prescribed. It is advisable to allow two weeks postoperatively before returning to usual activities, with up to six weeks needed before returning to strenuous exercise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
